SBI Life collaborates with Sadbhabana to support holistic development of children with special needs in Keonjhar district, Odisha


Bhubaneswar, July 25, 2022: SBI Life Insurance, one of the most trusted private life insurers in India joined hands with Sadbhabana, a not-for-profit organisation, to aid holistic development of children with special needs in Keonjhar district, Odisha. The company will support two flagship projects for children with special needs through Sadbhabana NGO – 1) ‘Prayas’ – a residential school for mentally challenged children and 2) ‘Community based rehabilitation program (CBR)’ – a home-based therapeutic intervention program.


Mr. G Durgadas, President-Zone 3, SBI Life Insurance along with Ms. Seema Trikannad, EVP & Chief of HR & Management Services, SBI Life Insurance handed over the cheque to Mr. Vidhu Bhusan Patnaik, President, Sadbhabana and Mr. Chandi Prasad Patnaik, Secretary, Sadbhabana in presence of Mr. PV Maruthi Naidu, Regional Director-Bhubaneswar region, SBI Life Insurance and other respected dignitaries.


The collaboration with Sadbhabana NGO has taken place under the company’s Corporate Social Responsibility program for holistic development of children and adolescents with mental and physical disabilities. Children between the age group of 0-18 years will be provided basic education, therapy and counselling support along with sessions for parents. This will help in empowering the children to live an independent life when it comes to doing basic daily functional tasks.


Speaking about the association, Mr. G Durgadas, President Zone 3, SBI Life Insurance said, “Children with special needs are often deprived of the most basic amenities like education, healthcare and social inclusion making it difficult for them to lead a normal life. It is pivotal to create a support system for them to thrive and ensure they attain their potential by tackling their developmental delays and medical conditions. For the past many years, Sadbhabana has been striving for these children and it is a privilege for SBI Life to be associated with them and extend support for an all-inclusive developmental program for the children. Through our various CSR Initiatives, SBI Life has been closely working towards progression of children and adolescents with special needs and promoting their education and livelihood enhancement programs. He further added, “We hope that this contribution will add value to the development of each child and will help them grow in their respective lives. This association is our effort towards the betterment of these children and the nation as a whole.”


Sadbhabana is a not for profit organization that works towards the welfare and upliftment of people with disability by undertaking a number of disable related activities and programs across 13 blocks (Banspal, Telkoi, Ghatagaon, Harichandanpur, Patana, Sharapada, Champua, Jhumpura, Joda, Anandapur, Ghasipura, Hatadihi) of Keonjhar district in Odisha. It operates an institution-based rehabilitation centre to serve children and adolescents with intellectual disability and cerebral palsy. Additionally, it also provides for door-step therapeutic aid and special education to children & adolescent with special needs residing in remote areas through its community based rehabilitation program. The following activities will be covered under the flagship projects for the beneficiaries:


· ‘Prayas’ aims at providing holistic rehabilitation with the sole objective of bringing about feasible improvement in the lives of the children with disability through imparting skills like activities of daily living for the purpose of integrating them into regular/ mainstream institutions of learning and society in general, enhancing their cognitive abilities, providing for aesthetic stimulus like music, painting and other creative vocational inputs etc.


· ‘Community Based Rehabilitation (CBR) program’ aims at enhancing the potentiality of children with special needs by providing quality rehabilitation services like special education & therapeutic services, capacity building of family and community to take care their children within community, socio economically rehabilitates involving the community programme, promoting opportunity, participation and ensuring their rights.
