ACC and Ambuja Cements recognized for sustainability efforts

· ACC ranked 16th and Ambuja Cements ranked 23rd in BW India’s Most Sustainable Companies in India

· Both companies have pledged to a Net Zero future aligned with Holcim’s 2050 target


Mumbai, May 11, 2022: Ambuja Cements and ACC, the two operating companies of global building materials group Holcim, have been recognised for their impactful work towards creating a more sustainable future and creating a higher benchmarks in India’s cement sector. ACC ranked 16th and Ambuja Cements ranked 23rd place in the 2021 The BW Businessworld India’s Most Sustainable Companies in India.


ACC and Ambuja in India have committed to a long-term net zero pledge that are closely aligned to the parent company’s vision to become a leader in sustainability. The leadership in ACC and Ambuja Cements have committed to building their respective companies, by keeping “profit with purpose” as their guiding North Star.


Neeraj Akhoury, CEO Holcim India and Managing Director & CEO, Ambuja Cements, said, “The mainstreaming of sustainability is the most significant affirmative action taken by the Indian cement industry. Our sustainability agenda and the roadmap to achieving Net Zero is closely aligned with Holcim’s commitment to become a net zero carbon company by 2050 that will be measured by clearly defined science-based targets. We are investing in both products and processes to ensure everything we do at ACC and Ambuja Cements is aligned to this larger and long term goal.”


In 2021, ACC became the first company in the Indian construction sector to sign the “Business Ambition for 1.5°C” commitment with 2030 intermediate targets approved by the Science Based Targets initiative closely followed by Ambuja Cements which also signed the same commitment. ACC and Ambuja Cements have taken several initiatives toward creating a sustainable ecosystem within the building materials sector. From running its cement carrying ships on biofuels to investing in Waste Heat Recovery Systems and large captive renewable energy sources, the two companies lead the Indian building materials industry in creating a greener future.
